Its official, Razorfish has been sold… well more kind of a trade/sale. The French company Publicis Groupe are the buyers who claim to be the 4th largest communications company in the world. The estimated acquisition is $530 million. Razorfish’s current clientelle include Ford and McDonnalds.
Joshua Palau who is over Razorfish’s, “Search Marketing Trends” newsletter said,
“We are pleased to announce that Razorfish will be joining the Publicis Groupe. While the deal is expected to close over the next few weeks, this marks an important new chapter in the history of Razorfish as we find a home within the one of the world’s largest advertising holding companies. More importantly, Publicis Groupe believes in digital and understands that Razorfish accelerates their digital strategy.”

When marketing online it is essential to know online trends and the whereabouts of your demographic. The top three players in social media today are Facebook.com, MySpace.com and Twitter.com. The following is is some research that I have found comparing usage between all three. Some interesting trends are shown here.

Working With Social Media, an opportunity to LISTEN
Robin Grant of the agency, “We Are Social“, which started in June 2008 wrote an article showcasing Best Buys (their client) new focus on social media. In this article it contains a fantastic video which I think every communication professional should watch.
It addresses the challenges Best Buy has had to face with competitors such as Wal-Mart and Amazon and quotes,

The foundation of the Internet is based upon marketing & without a successful business model the Internets technological progression will stumble to a halt.
Twenty-six years and four months ago, an idea to globally interconnect a limitless number of computers was realized. This idea was to offer a new form of communication that had incredible potential. Sharing information was now made possible making web pages/applications universally accessible. Needless to say since then it has been indexed, commercialized and perpetuated. Indeed it has grasped the attention of millions and taking the term, “global media” to an entirely new level. It is the greatest record of mankind ever created with literally millions of new pages being made each and every day, demanding and proclaiming it worthy of our attention.

On Saturday I found a great article written by Marshall Kirkpatrick titled “How Twitter’s Staff Uses Twitter (And Why It Could Cause Problems)” it is a fantastic read and covers some great insight and reveals the difference between the developers at Twitter Inc. and its millions of avid users.

So what is the difference?
The difference is that each of the developers at Twitter Inc. only tweet 2-3 times a day. Whereas the average number of tweets per day taken from a study of 1.6 million Twitter users was 4.422 (Study taken from Twitter Grader by HubSpot). The difference may look minimal but at best it shows that the development team at Twitter tweets 32%-55% lower than the average user.
